Bible Studies

As the foundation of all we believe and all we do, women meet regularly to study God’s word for spiritual growth and fellowship. “Do you best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).

The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment by Jeremiah Burroughs.

In his book, Burroughs’ approach to contentment is both practical and theological. He provides practical advice on how to cultivate contentment in one’s life, and he also draws on Scripture to explain the importance of contentment for a Christian life. He argues that contentment is a sign of true faith and that it is a sign of a person’s complete submission to God’s will. He also explains that contentment is a sign of a person’s trust in God and his sovereignty.

The book can be purchased online for under $10. No childcare available. This group will meet at the Preston Lake Club House. To sign up, contact leaders, Kellie Hutchison and Alexis Stevens.

Steadfast by Courtney Doctor.

Faithfulness regardless of our circumstances. That’s what it means to be steadfast. But in a world where so much can undermine our faith or pull us off track, steadfastness is often a rare and elusive trait. James longs for his readers to be steadfast. This 8-week study of James provides:5 days of study each week observing, interpreting, and applying the text and small group discussion questions. In a fickle and wayward age, we need biblical wisdom if we are to stay the course and be steadfast saints. The book of James provides this wisdom, and Steadfast will help you apply it.

Books are purchased already. They will cost $3. No childcare available. This group will meet at the homes of the leaders. The leaders are Grace Weinger, Jacey Roberts, and Laura Nelson. To sign up, contact Laura Nelson.

Contentment by Megan Hill.

“If I could just have a little more . . . if my situation were just a little different! My plan for my life would be perfect―if it would just come true!” It is often obvious how little we are in control of our lives, and discontent seems like a natural response to not getting what we want. But it’s a dangerous attitude that drives us away from God―and, ironically, getting what we want wouldn’t fix it! So what will? Megan Hill takes us on a month-long journey to lift our eyes from our own expectations for our lives and fix them on the God who is more reliable than our changing circumstances―and who ordains them for our good. This devotional teaches us the value of contentment, helps us to cultivate a thankful heart, and provides immensely practical approaches for pursuing contentment in specific types of circumstances that trigger our worry and anxiety.

The cost for the book is $12. There is no childcare. We will meet at Mr. J’s on Rt 33 in Harrisonburg. To sign up, contact leaders Ally Padilla and Heather Chico.
