In the first six verses of this chapter Paul describes how he and the other apostles have faithfully presented the gospel in a hostile world. Paul began his encouragement with the phrase, “Do not lose heart,” which is a theme he will return to at the end of this chapter. In between these two encouragements, Paul outlines the path of suffering and glory that Jesus modeled and is now exhibited in his followers. This chapter is a great encouragement to the weary saint and to the embattled church. This world will bring suffering but do not lose heart; it is for greater glory.
