This Sunday we continue in our study of second Peter. In this section, we will see that the Word of God is not only grounded in history, but it is also inspired by God the Holy Spirit. The Apostle Peter defends the reliability of the gospel, appealing to his firsthand experience as an eyewitness of Jesus’ transfiguration, and recalling God’s declaration that Jesus is his beloved Son. These events demonstrate Christ’s divine nature and validate the apostles’ testimony, assuring Christians that our faith rests on real historical events rather than legends or human invention.
At the threat of false teachers, Peter reminds the church that the Old Testament prophets and New Testament apostles wrote under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, making the Bible the inspired Word of God. And because of this, there is no other ultimate authority but the Scriptures. They are our guiding light in a spiritually dark world which lead the way for as we wait for the return of Christ
