I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
Join fellow PARENTS and YOUTH at Covenant Presbyterian Church for a conference with special guests Rosaria Butterfield and Walt Mueller. The focus will be on equipping Christian families to navigate complex cultural issues using biblical principles. As followers of Jesus we have a responsibility to be awake and oriented to both the Scriptures and the world we live in. God’s Word is never-changing; the world is ever-changing. Each element of this conference will help clarify the truths of the Bible and give practical help in applying godly wisdom to life.
Everyone is invited to come and learn alongside one another. Teens, new and seasoned parents, grandparents, children and youth ministry volunteers are all invited to learn from multiple well-respected voices. These topics are of great importance and the time is now to engage and get equipped. The conference is open to all, but will be tailored to youth (7th-12th grades) and parents (whose oldest child is 3rd grade and up).
Simultaneous interpretation in Spanish will be available.
Friday, January 16, 6:30-9:00 p.m.
Rosaria Butterfield | Culture's Lies About Sexuality, Faith, Feminism, Gender, and Modesty
Have you ever asked yourself, Am I on the wrong side of history concerning matters of human sexuality? Having believed the culture’s lies herself, Rosaria knows how seductive they are and seeks to bring biblical clarity on these confusing issues. Magnifying the transformative work of the gospel and the power of the Holy Spirit in sanctification is the way forward. Many of us have failed to understand that loving our enemies is an act of godly confrontation. Our calling is to repent of the lies that we have believed and attempt to stay connected with loved ones who are lost to them.
Panel Discussion | Dr. Rosaria Butterfield, Rev. Kent Butterfield, Dr. Walt Mueller, Rev. Todd Pruitt, Mrs. Lisa Updike
Saturday, January 17, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon
Walt Mueller | Catechizing 101: Raising Spiritually Healthy Kids in Today's Youth Culture
Our children and teens are at a unique stage of life where they are making decisions about who they are and what they believe. . . both now and for the rest of their lives. Culture is “catechizing” or teaching them 24/7. The challenge for the Christian home and church is to counter this cultural education with the life-shaping truths of the Gospel. Dr. Mueller will talk about the major cultural mantras that are shaping youth, along with strategies and tools for facilitating spiritual nurture as you communicate the great truths of God’s Word to teens.
Walt Mueller | Digital Discipleship: Teens, Tech, and Social Media
The latest research tells us that our children and teens are spending over 8½ hours a day engaged with their screens. It’s no coincidence that as time spent on social media and screens has been steadily rising, there’s been a parallel rise and spike in anxiety, stress, depression, and suicide in our student populations. As you interact with today’s youth, you must engage in the process of “digital discipleship” by teaching teens how to use their smartphones and other technologies to God’s glory. In this seminar, Dr. Mueller will offer insights into how and why technology is contributing to the decline in student spiritual, relational, and emotional health, along with strategies you can enlist to teach youth to manage their devices, rather than allowing their devices to manage them. . . which ultimately will lead to health and wholeness.
Adults $30 | Youth $15 (7th-12th grades)
There is an option to add-on a $15 scholarship to go toward a youth's ticket price.
