Marriage, Sexuality, and Gender

As a member congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America, Covenant Presbyterian Church fully affirms our denomination’s biblical position on marriage, human sexuality, and gender. Our position is based upon the doctrinal standards of the Bible clearly taught in, but not limited to, the following passages: Genesis 2:24; Leviticus 18:1-30; Romans 1:26-32; 1 Corinthians 5:1-2; 6:9-11; 7:10; 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8; Hebrews 13:4; Ephesians 5:22-23; and Mark 10:6-9.

God created his human image-bearers as male and female and all attempts to distort or undermine this design are sinful and damaging to humanity. God’s design is that male and female are to be complementary to one another and that the privilege of sexual expression is between male and female only. This good and life-giving design for sexual intimacy is intended solely for one man and one woman united in the bond of marriage. Therefore, any heterosexual or homosexual behavior or relationship that does not conform to God’s design is sin and does violence to the human soul and body.

We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, and dignity (Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31). Hateful behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Holy Scripture, the doctrines of our holy religion nor the example of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, those struggling with sexual or any other type of besetting sins are welcome to attend Covenant Presbyterian Church and to receive pastoral counsel and encouragement to walk in God’s good and wise design.
